Now let’s focus on the features that make the Keter our top choice! There are a two really great features to this planter that make it really stand out from the rest. The first is that it has an integrated watering system that prevents over watering and rot decay. The second is the water gauge that lets you know when it’s time to water and when it’s time to drain.
No more worrying about over-watering or under-watering your plants, the reservoir will hold excess water, and the gauge allows you to keep an eye on if things are going out of control.
How does the gauge work?
On the Keter Easy Grow, there is a water indicator, which is a float that connects to the water reservoir, which has a leaf on the top (see the top center of the cross section image). If that leaf extends above the top of the opening, then you have plenty of water. If the leaf is down below the top of the opening, you need to add more.
The Bottom Line: The Best Elevated Raised Garden Beds
It may be a little more expensive than some of the other raised bed planters on the market, but the Keter Easy Grow Patio Planter is worth every penny. Not only does this planter look more attractive than most, it also functions better too.
The innovative features on the Keter Elevated Raised Planter, such as the water reservoir and water gauge, are fantastic add-ons that make life easier. These are what really differentiates the Easy Grow from the rest.
The quality of it can’t be knocked, and it’s PE-resin wicker look really shows it off.
All-in-all, you really couldn’t ask for a better raised garden bed.

The natural wood finish means you have the option to leave as it is for the natural look, or paint over it if you prefer something a little different. You can paint, stain, seal, or leave it as is, but it will certainly look nice whatever you choose. That said, we suggest treating it with something, even if just a clear sealer, for protection.
It’s raised to just the right height to work with, as well, to help save your back and knees from taking too much strain.
There aren’t any pre-drilled holes for drainage, though there are spaces between the slats that allow water to escape. You may want to drill some additional drainage holes to keep things from stagnating in the box.

The Bottom Line: Quality Wood Raised Planter BoxesOverall this garden bed is a pretty good choice. Its au natural look is simple yet effective. The Chinese Fir wood gives the planter a nice touch. The size and height is just right for easy work, and the price is really good too.
The only thing that makes it second in comparison to the Keter Easy Grow Planter is the construction is slightly less sturdy. Natural wood is great, but is definitely higher maintenance than the resin plastic of the Keter.
But, the Best Choice Raised Garden Bed will still hold up well through all kinds of weathter. If you’re looking for a slightly cheaper natural wood option that’s still just as effective, this may be the one for you.

The Gardeners Supply Raised Garden Bed box is made of Cedar, and is quite attractive. There’s no liner, and none is needed, but you should treat both the inside and outside of the box with a Cedar Garden Bed Oil [Amazon Link] in order to preserve and maintain the finish.
These units don’t have the dovetail assembly design that the Best Choice Products Raised Beds have, but they do offer casters for easy movement, and the construction of the legs is solid aluminum, so they are incredibly sturdy, rust-proof, and maintenance free.
The bed is also rather deep for an elevated raised bed, making them ideal for tomatoes and other deep-rooting plants.
But let’s focus on the primary outstanding feature, the self watering aspect!
The Self Watering system works somewhat similar to the Keter Elevated Garden Planter described above. In the bottom of the unit, there is a water reservoir that can hold four gallons of water. Traveling through the soil bed is a fabric wick, that sucks up water from the reservoir, and deposits it along the roots, in the soil.
There is also a float in the bed, which identifies when the water in the reservoir is running low, and when everything is soaking nicely.
When assembling this raised bed, it’s best to start all of the screws, before going back for a second round and tightening everything up. This way, you can be sure all the screws are properly aligned, and everything fits properly.
The Bottom LineThe Gardeners Supply Elevated Raised Planter Box is a very nice, high end planter box with a wonderful auto-watering feature. It is very well made, and will work for many people as a raised garden bed.
However, the price is quite high for these elevated raised garden beds, and while we love the cedar, you will need to maintain the box. The self-watering feature is quite nice, but for the price of these units plus shipping, you could purchase almost two of the Keter Easy Grow boxes.
These units are not currently available on Amazon Prime, and shipping is extra.
Hopefully by now you will have a much better idea as to the type of bed planter you’d like to see in your garden. If price is not an issue, then the Keter Easy Grow Patio Planter [Amazon Link] is by far one the best raised planters out there. It looks fabulous and it works really well. The auto-water feature is outstanding, and the overall build is as good as it gets.
However, if the Keter just doesn’t grab what you’re looking for, any of the other elevated raised planter boxes on our list today are a great choice.
We know wood is the traditional planter box material, and we love wood, but buyers should consider what Keter has in their design, and given its price point, the Keter is a very compelling choice.
Your garden will be happy with whatever elevated bed you choose, and your back and knees will be very happy with any of these elevated garden beds!
