Also made of eucalyptus wood, the Arboria 5’ backless outdoor bench is a good quality, simple outdoor bench with attractive lines and a modern look. The Arboria eucalyptus bench has some color variations that may bother some consumers, which is why we feel the Vifah is a better choice. The Arboria is shown in a pretty natural color, but it, in fact, is more of a reddish/deep brown tone that is not ideal. While the stain can be sanded off and redone, it’s a bit of a pain. Also covered under a one year warranty, you can be comfortable that this bench should last a while.

Second Runner-Up: Best Vinyl Outdoor Backless Bench Under $100

Typically solid vinyl outdoor benches go for $500 and over, so Dura-Trel’s Selena 6’ vinyl bench is certainly an interesting product. It is not entirely made of vinyl, but rather is constructed of vinyl sleeves with wood inside for strength and stability. That said, the outer shell is rot, mildew, mold, and UV resistant, and the whole bench is maintenance free. It’s even covered under a 20-year warranty! We can’t say we love the look of this bench, but if you’re in search of a low maintenance outdoor seating area, it’s hard to beat the Dura-Trel Selena bench!

Vifah is an outdoor furniture brand we’re quite fond of, and we chose their work as one of our favorite patio furniture sets under $300. Their work on this bench is of similarly high quality, and the well-thought-out construction is excellent for the price. The Baltic Bench by Vifah is a high quality 3 person bench with elegant color, and a comfortable curved bench seat. This outdoor backless bench is made from FSC-certified Eucalyptus, which has many properties that are quite similar to teak. If left untreated, it will age to a soft silvery finish; if you want to keep the beautiful wood tones, you can treat the wood a couple of times a year. Like virtually all outdoor wooden furniture, it is wise to cover this bench, or bring it inside when not in use. Protecting the bench from the elements will significantly increase its life, and keep it looking as good as possible for as long as possible. Assembly of the Baltic Bench is pretty simple, and you’ll have it together in less than 30 minutes, assuming some familiarity with the construction of flat pack furniture.

The Arboria Outdoor Bench is a simple, elegant 5’ long wooden bench made of eucalyptus wood, and finished to an attractive reddish walnut tone. Note that the color is darker and redder than the images shown here, so beware. If you don’t like the stain color, you could stand and refinish, as this is solid wood. This bench could conceivably fit three adults, though beware that it may sag with significant weight stress.

The Arboria outdoor backless bench is a simple, high-quality bench that has reasonable strength, but at a 5’ span, will gradually sag over time when heavy objects (or people) are placed toward the center of the span. The Eucalyptus hardwood is a nice choice and is attractive, but at least some of the benches are of a very significantly different color than the ones shown here. This creates some confusion! The construction of this bench is made with classical mortise and tenon joinery, which is a nice touch. That said, you can still see the stainless steel hardware at the points where the main pieces get attached together. Assembly is pretty straightforward and can be accomplished in under 1 hour, assuming some familiarity with flat pack furniture. You may want to pick up a cover for this bench if you plan on leaving it outside exposed to the weather for a significant portion of the year. The eucalyptus will gradually fade to a pretty gray color, but if you plan to keep the stained wood look intact, it’s much easier to keep that finish if you cover the bench or bring it inside when not in use.

The Selena 6’ Vinyl outdoor bench is unique on our list, as it is the only non-wooden bench found. Clocking in at 6’ in length, it is also the longest bench on the list, and also, the cheapest bench available! Made from vinyl, this bench is virtually maintenance free, and will not rot, fade, peel, or discolor. Compared to other vinyl benches on the market, this bench is marketed at a surprisingly low price!

The Dura-Trel Selena vinyl bench is an interesting option for an inexpensive vinyl bench system. Unlike the premium poly wood benches that can easily go for $500+, the Dura-Trel is not made of solid planks of vinyl. Instead, these units are hollow and are filled with wood for structural stability. This enables Dura-Tel to market this bench at a far lower price than the higher end poly wood benches. Dura-Trel still covers this bench under a 20-year warranty, which is pretty spectacular. The Selena bench is capable of handling 3-4 people, and up to 700lbs of weight. It is quite sturdy, as it is reinforced with wooden inserts inside the vinyl shell. At 6’ in length, this is the longest bench on our list. It has a distinctive X shaped base structure, which many may not find very attractive. The design is a bit rustic, but the shiny finish of the vinyl betrays the rustic design somewhat. The bench is a little bit narrow, and some may find it uncomfortable to sit on for a long period of time. But for occasional relaxation by the garden, or for reading a book on a quiet day for a while, this bench will do just fine. Assembly of this bench is a little bit more tedious than some of the other products on our list, but overall it is not terribly difficult to complete. It can be done in an hour or so by one person somewhat familiar with flat pack furniture assembly. Some have reported that holes are not drilled in the correct place, and they have had to drill new holes to get it all assembled. One tip: be sure to get all of the screws “started” before going back and doing another round of tightening. This can make the assembly process much easier, even though it may feel like it will take more time than just fully installing each bolt as you go.

The Delahey 4’ outdoor bench is made of FSC-certified hardwoods (Forest Stewardship Council) and finished with a teak oil finish. Constructed in classical mortise and tenon joinery, with galvanized steel hardware to fasten everything together. This bench should last outdoors for a long period, though we do encourage you to take it inside or cover it when not in use, as this will only increase the useful life of the bench. You can put another coating of teak oil on the bench every so often to keep it looking good, but covering it will be an even bigger help. The most significant feature of this bench is its sturdiness. The Better Homes & Gardens Delahey bench is very sturdy and can handle a significant amount of weight. If your guests tend to be on the hefty side, this is an excellent choice for a patio bench.

The Coral Coast 3’ Outdoor Backless Bench, made of beautiful Acacia wood, is a nice choice for a smaller outdoor bench. The lines on this bench are quite modern and simple, with the slats spanning the length of the bench, rather than the width - a more attractive design. This bench will seat two people reasonably comfortably, but it is the smallest bench on our list. It will look great on the back porch, at the entryway, or even in the house!

The Coral Coast backless wooden bench is the smallest bench on our list, clocking in at 3’ long, but for many use cases, a 3’ bench is more useful than a 5’ bench. Many front porches and stoops can’t handle a 5’ bench, but a 3’ bench will fit, and work as a great plant stand, or a quiet place to sit on a sunny afternoon. The actual finish color of the Coral Coast bench is a darker brown than what is shown in these pictures, so if you intend to get this, plan on it arriving in a darker shade than what is shown here. This bench is made of acacia wood and is quite solid. However, acacia is not considered one of the best woods for outdoor furniture and is a step down from eucalyptus, and two steps down from teak. Acacia is not a bad choice for outdoor furniture, but it is not the best choice either. Assembly of this bench is quite simple: install the six 4“ screws into the holes, and you’re all set. Assuming some familiarity with flat pack furniture assembly, you’ll have this one set up in under 15 minutes with no special tools required. Just be gentle with the screws, as you can strip them if you’re not careful. Take it slowly and steadily, and you’ll be fine. The fasteners are quite strong, and as a consequence, the bench itself is quite sturdy.
