The Sundale Outdoor rectangular umbrella line is a little bigger than the Abba Patio and is built to a slightly lower quality build spec. That said, the price is lower, and Sundale has a great array of colors to choose from. For its price point, this is a very nice patio umbrella, especially if you’re looking for a larger format umbrella! Featuring 22 LED lights powered by a solar panel on the top, and the standard tilt and crank functionality, this umbrella is well made, though perhaps not quite as durable as the Abba Patio above.

The Abba Patio rectangular patio umbrella features an aluminum shaft, powder coated a coffee color, for protection. The eight ribs of this unit are aluminum as well, which is a reasonably good choice for rib material. They are somewhat flexible, though not as strong as fiberglass. The canvas is a nice, heavy fabric and is reasonably water-resistant. It is color-fast rated to 1,000 hours, which is nice. We suggest pulling it down when a storm comes in, however. The switch for the lights is located right next to the crank mechanism. The lights are quite bright and are definitely bright enough for eating. Reading may be difficult for some with these lights, but it’s likely personal preference. They will run for 9-12 hours on a single charge. The Abba Patio rectangular patio umbrella features a single vent on the top, which is adequate for this umbrella. However, Be sure you get a base for this umbrella, as it is pretty sizable and should have a proper patio umbrella base. The tilt function works well, and is easy to use: just push the button on the top of the shaft, and you can angle the umbrella to suit your needs.

The pole and six ribs on the frame are made of aluminum with a black powder coating. Aluminum is a decent rib material that allows the umbrella to flex in the breeze without snapping. However, if the wind is picking up, we strongly encourage you to close this umbrella up. The canvas is made of 180G polyester and is attractive and water-resistant. In a steady rain, water will soak through this umbrella, but it will shelter those underneath through a mild rain. The Sundale rectangular patio umbrella has a single air vent in the center, at the top of the umbrella. It helps channel air through the umbrella canopy, keeping the air moving and helping to prevent the umbrella from toppling. We encourage you to purchase a weighted base for this patio umbrella, as it will certainly need proper weighting. This umbrella is pretty big, so plan on getting a fairly sturdy base to protect your investment. The crank is well designed and is pretty simple to use. Just crank to open the umbrella. The position of the crank is such that it probably won’t worth with a counter-height table. The tilt functionality is pretty easy to work with as well, and is available at the push of a button! Right above the crank is a switch to turn on or off the LED lighting. The LED lights are powered by a square solar panel, which rests at the top of the unit, above the air vent. This panel is capable of powering the lights for 9-12 hours. Be sure you plug the LED lighting panel into the light plug at the top of the umbrella, or the solar panel will not collect any light! The Sundale Outdoors rectangular umbrella features 26 LED lights located along the ribs, under the canopy. The four longer ribs each contain 5 LEDs, and the two shorter ribs contain 3 LEDs, which provides a good deal of accent light to those sitting beneath the canopy.

The umbrella features a tilt mechanism available at the push of a button and opens and closes easily using the hand crank on the shaft. A single air vent keeps the air flowing nicely, though, in a gusty wind, this umbrella can topple. The pole is made of steel and is powder-coated for protection. The canvas is made of 180G polyester, and is water resistant, though not waterproof. It will keep a light rain from soaking through but isn’t designed for use in significant water. We suggest getting a reasonably heavy patio umbrella base for this unit, as it will need one! The LED lights are powered by a solar panel located at the top of the umbrella, and there is a handy on/off switch located on the pole to make turning the lights on a snap. Check your connections if the lighting is not working properly. The lights are reasonably bright, enough to eat by and probably enough to read by, depending on your individual needs. Some have found that the pole is a little bit flimsy, especially when the umbrella is tilted and it is windy out. Should the wind be blowing steadily, we would suggest closing this umbrella, and certainly not leaving it in a tilted state, as that can snap the pole. The tilt functionality is nice, but we would encourage caution in using it. To use the tilt, you just continue to crank the crank; there is no push button tilt.

The frame and 8 ribs are made of aluminum and are powder coated to resist rust and damage from the elements. The construction of this frame is of fairly high quality. The pole is detachable, as is the crank handle, which is a nice extra! The canvas is made from 240 GSM spun polyester, and is water, UV, and fade resistant, which is great. The umbrella features a standard single wind vent and is pretty stable. We do strongly recommend getting a weighted base for this umbrella, as any sort of wind will easily damage it if it is not properly weighted down. The solar LED umbrella lighting system consists of a square solar panel on the top of the shaft (note: be sure to attach this panel to the top of the umbrella, as it does not come attached). The panel charges and powers 26 LED lights attached periodically to the ribs of the umbrella. With a full charge, these umbrella lights will glow for 9-12 hours. There is a switch to turn the lights on and off, right on the pole. These lights are more in the white hue, as opposed to the yellow/golden hue. The color isn’t ideal, but the brightness of the light is more for ambiance rather than true illumination, so it may not be a big deal to many. This patio umbrella has an easy tilt functionality: just push the button, and you can angle your umbrella to whatever point feels most comfortable, and blocks out the most sun. The tilt function is located a little bit high on the umbrella, which may be an annoyance for those who are on the shorter side.

There is a single center wind vent on this umbrella, and it works well at keeping the air flowing through. The umbrella is quite top-heavy, especially when titled, and a good quality weighted umbrella base is a must for this umbrella. 180 mg fabric provides good shade and is quite water resistant, but it is not the thickest material around, and likely is not completely UV resistant. GC Global Direct advertises this frame as a Kirsteni frame stronger than aluminum or steel. We aren’t quite sure of that! The frame seems adequate, and the 8 aluminum ribs seem to be of good quality. This patio umbrella features 22 small LED lights. The color temperature is a bit colder than some of the other lights on this list, and if color temperature is important to you, you may want to look elsewhere. These are rather harsh when used as the only source of illumination, and is white rather than a soft yellow.
