Best Wooden Trash Can Holder
Wooden Trash Can Holders are a great way to keep your trash hidden and out of reach from pesky critters. And, because they’re wooden, they’re pretty versatile and will look good in any environment, certainly more so than plastic resin storage bins. After carrying out some careful research, we’ve found that the best wooden trash can holder available currently (in our opinion) is the Leisure Season Horizontal Trash Can Holder [Amazon Link].
It is quite attractive, has double front doors and an operable lid powered by a gas piston. It is designed with an easy-roll out system, and is capable of handling most large trash and recycling barrels.

Runner Up Best Budget Wooden Garbage Can Shed
For a great wooden trash can holder that won’t cost you the Earth and does just what you need it to, check out the Merax Wooden Garden Shed [Amazon Link]. It’s durable, aesthetically pleasing, and very easy to put together.
It is not the largest shed available, so make sure it will fit your trash and recycling bins, and it does not have an operable lid, which is a bit of a downside. However, as a budget choice, it is a good one.

Wooden Trash Can Shed Reviews
In this section, we will look at four different options for wooden trash can storage sheds. There are a few different designs on our list, and some are designed specifically for holding trash cans, while others are designed for general purpose use, and can be adapted for garbage can storage.
Merax Wood Shed Garden Storage Shed with Fir Wood (Natural wood color – Double door)
The Merax wooden garden storage shed is an elegant storage shed that looks nice, and is capable of storing two medium sized trash bins inside (with perhaps some room above). This shed is made from fir, smells great, and has a great unassuming style.
It is easily secured, and while the shed feels a little flimsy, as long as you don’t overload it, it should do a nice job of storing your trash cans and other items.
Key Points at a Glance
- Natural wood color
- Double latch locking doors
- Asphalt felt roof
- Easy to assemble
- Construction is a little bit flimsy
Dimensions
- Overall dimensions: 55.1” L x 19.7” W x 63.8” H
- Item weight: 65.3 lbs.
The Details
This wooden trash can holder makes a great addition to any outside space. Its natural fir wood color means it blends in well with pretty much any surrounding, and it doesn’t have that “fake plastic” look that comes with resin plastic garbage can sheds.
With double locks and double doors, this shed is great for medium-sized trash can storage, and for garden tools and equipment.
Be sure to check the size of your trash and recycle bins against this shed’s dimensions, but this shed should, for example, fit these United Solutions trash bins [Amazon Link]
The green asphalt felt roof on these sheds provides an extra layer of durability and protects the shed from harsh weather. That said, the shed is not completely waterproof, and water will almost certainly get in the shed from time to time.
If you need a waterproof shed, you’re probably better off looking at the resin plastic shed style.
The shed frame is a bit on the flimsy side, and users may find a significant benefit to putting additional bracing (such as a brick or patio block) under the midpoint of the shed, as that is where it will sag over time.
Also, be sure you have level ground underneath this shed, as a non-level surface will cause the shed to warp or sag in different spots. If the shed sags, the doors will cease to function properly.
Assembly is pretty easy and can be completed in around 30 minutes. However, you will need the use of an electric drill, which is obviously not included.
The Bottom Line
If you’re looking for a well-built, budget-priced, medium-sized wooden trash can holder, then this shed is a good choice. The Merax Wood Shed Garden Storage Shed looks nice, and functions well for medium sized trash can storage.
It’s reasonably spacious (measure your bins to ensure they will fit), durable, and doesn’t take a genius to put together. As long as you don’t need an open-able lid, this shed is a nice budget choice.

Bosmere WS1881H Rowlinson Wallstore Wooden Outdoor/Garden Lockable Storage Unit with Double Doors, Honey-Brown Finish
The Wallstore Wooden Outdoor Storage Shed has a pretty classic, simple look, and boasts a large amount of interior storage space. It is constructed of 1/2″ shiplap pine, and is dipped in a stain so there is no need to treat or otherwise deal with staining for a few months anyway.
Key Points at a Glance
- Honey brown finish
- Built from sturdy shiplap pine
- Fully lockable double doors
- 10-year rot free guarantee
- 1-year general warranty
Dimensions
- Overall dimensions: 32.5” D x 71.8″ W x 64.6″ H
- Door Opening: Door opening: 52″ H x 63″ W
- Item weight: 207 lbs.
The Details
This is an all around good wooden trash can holder for many reasons. Firstly it is huge. This thing is plenty big enough to store large garbage bins and still have room to put a couple of other bits too.
Its lockable double doors allow for easy access and security when you need it and it’s made from a quality wood that’s pressure treated to keep it looking its best for longer.
The mineral felt roof also helps to weatherproof this shed, though it’s not completely waterproof. There are small gaps in the shiplap and between the doors, and blowing rain will inevitably get through. If you need a waterproof shed, we would suggest you stick to the resin plastic models.
Being over 6ft wide and and 5 ft tall, this model is pretty heavy and will definitely need two people to assemble it. That being said it’s not particularly difficult to put together and can be assembled fully within a few hours. It arrives on a pallet, and will likely look daunting, so be prepared.
However, assembly is not super difficult, and with two people and an electric drill, you’ll have the shed constructed shortly. You may want to have some extra screws on hand to reinforce a few spots where the hardware that is included may seem a bit inadequate.
Be sure you have level ground to install this shed onto, as the non-level ground will warp the structure over time, and make the doors not function.
As always, check to confirm that your trash bins will fit in this shed, but the size of this unit is large enough to fit virtually all trash bins we looked at.
The Bottom Line
If you have the space and you have the budget then this wooden trash can holder is an excellent choice. However, if you are lacking in either, the Bosmere WS1881H may not be for you. It’s looks nice, is really sturdy and there’s more than enough room to fit your trash.
It does not have an open-able lid, which is a downside when dealing with trash bins, which is why we have chosen to put this one in the second spot.

Leisure Season Large Horizontal Refuse Storage Shed
The Leisure Season Horizontal refuse storage shed was built with trashcan storage in mind, and while it is not cheap, it is quite effective at storing trash cans and allowing easy access to your bins.
It features a gas powered lid, double doors that open wide, and an easy-roll out system. It’s great for most trash storage applications.
Key Points at a Glance
- Features three-door design
- Made from high-quality materials
- Weatherproof
- Gas powered piston on the lid
- Easy roll-out design
Dimensions
- Overall dimensions: 65” W x 38” D x 53” H
- Internal dimensions : 61″ W x 36″ D x 47″ H
- Item weight: 95 lbs.
The Details
You can see that a lot of thought has gone into the look of this wooden trash can holder. It’s much more elegant than most others out there. There are three doors on this model: double doors at the front, and a single lid on the top, for easy access. Smartly, they all lock to prevent unwanted visitors.
The top lid opens easily with a gas powered piston (similar to a car’s trunk). It works well and allows easy access to the tops of the barrels, but some people on the shorter side may find it difficult to reach the top of the lid to shut it when they are ready to close, as it opens up pretty high. If necessary, you can tie a rope to the lid to aid in pulling it closed.
The Leisure Season shed is made of solid wood and coated with an acrylic protective coating. It is well designed, though there is no bottom on the shed. Depending on the environment it is sitting on, water may wick up from the ground to the walls, and rot the shed over time.
Buyers may want to place this on a concrete slab or patio blocks to prevent this issue.
On the plus side, it is very easy to get access to your bins through the top lid, or the fully-operable doors. This shed should fit most large trash bins, but as always, be sure to check the measurements of your bins against the shed to confirm.
Assembly is fairly easy and can be done alone, or a little quicker with two pairs of hands. The wood is coated with a clear sealer, but regular treatment or painting is required to keep this shed looking great, as is the case with all wooden shed products.
The Bottom Line
All in all, these large wooden trash can holders are a very good choice for many. The shed is a decent size, looks stylish, and is lockable from the start. It has an operable, gas powered lid, and can easily fit most large trash cans. Assembly is a lot easier than some others on our list, as well.

Bosmere Rowlinson A042 Garbage Bin Storage Shed, 69″ x 53″ x 40″
The Bosmere Rowlinson A042 Garbage Can Storage Shed is the second shed from BR on our list. It is attractive, and is a wooden shed designed specifically to hold garbage cans.
However, its price and build quality give us pause, and make us less enthusiastic about purchasing it than some of the other sheds on our list.
Key Points at a Glance
- Apex style roof
- Convenient storage for 2 trash cans
- Double door entrance or lifting lid access
- Easy roll-out functionality
Dimensions
- Overall dimensions: 53” H x 40” D x 69” W
- Item weight: 148 lbs.
The Details
As far as looks go, the Bosmere Rowlinson A042 trash can holder is not bad. It’s tidy, made with 12mm shiplap cladding, and is big enough to hold most large trash cans and recycle bins.
In terms of functionality, it has chains attached to the lid on either side, which makes accessing your trash cans really easy. Unfortunately, and unlike the Leisure Season shed above, the lid on the A042 does not have a gas powered piston to make opening and closing easy. However, this shed has two upper doors, so you don’t have to lift up the whole shed roof by hand.
Like the Leisure Season shed above, this shed does not have any base. A bit more distressing is that there is not even a brace put across the bottom front of the unit, and this design may result in weakness over time.
The lack of any base makes rolling your trash cans in and out very easy, but it also means that the wood sitting on the ground can wick water up through the walls.
This design may lead to rotting over time. It is best to place this shed on concrete or patio blocks to ensure that the base of the shed is not excessively wet.
Assembly shouldn’t take that long two people together, but just be aware that some parts of it are a little on the flimsy side. It is critical that this shed is placed on level ground, as putting it on uneven ground will lead to warping over time, and will make it so that the doors do not operate very well.
The Bottom Line
While this trash can holder has a nice natural finish, it does look a little plain in comparison to some others out there. The lifting lid feature is pretty good though and comes in handy when you just want to throw your trash in.
But the high price, questionable design choices, and lack of a gas powered piston on the lid make this not the best choice out there unless it is on a significant sale.
- Storage shed for two garbage bins with lifting lid - 69" x 53" x 40"high
- Made from pressure treated wood with natural finish
- 2 front doors that are lockable
- All fixings and assembly instructions are included
