Outdoor Organization

Having a garden shed is a wonderful way to get your outdoor space organized and to clean up the clutter that has been accumulating in your yard and garage once and for all. There are many options available on the market today in a variety of building materials, and it can be confusing to choose which is the best shed material.

Maybe you like the beauty, versatility, and durability of a wood shed but you’re not sure you have the budget or the know-how to build one. Or, perhaps the idea of a resin shed is appealing because it doesn’t take any special skills to build and the idea of “maintenance free” is a real added bonus with your busy life.

What if we told you that you could have the best qualities of both wood and plastic rolled into one? If this idea has you doing cartwheels in the lawn, then you’re in luck! There just happens to be such a creation—the Keter Fusion Shed—which we’re going to review here today, giving you all the nitty-gritty details on this amazing new product.

Keter Fusion Materials

Fusion Material Detail
Fusion Material Detail

The Keter Fusion is constructed from a revolutionary new building material that combines wood fibers with plastic resin to create a hybrid wood-plastic composite (WPC). This hybrid material provides the absolute best qualities of both materials.

Because of its wood properties, it is very strong. It is also drillable, which allows you to customize your new shed to your liking.

To top that off, the Fusion has the look and beauty of real wood right down to the wood grain.

The Fusion also gives you all the advantages of a resin shed: you never have paint or stain this shed. The color is mixed into the material when its created, so it can’t scratch. It may fade a bit over time, due to the high wood content of the material, but it need not be painted or stained. If you do decide to paint or stain, be sure you use a paint that is compatible with Wood Plastic Composite.

Fusion Roof Tile Detail

Maintenance is not a concern with the Fusion. It’s completely rot, mildew and rodent proof. All it really requires is an occasional hose down or pressure washing in order to keep it looking beautiful for years to come.

The double doors open wide, to about 58″, and are quite tall, at 73″. You’ll have little trouble getting anything in or out of your Fusion shed, whether you plan on using it for snowblower storage, bike storage, or lawnmower storage.

This shed has a double-wall construction reinforced with steel, a durable resin floor and a roof made from steel reinforced tile to provide extra strength for whatever mother nature throws at it.

Interior Environment

The fusion provides ample space inside to move around, and plenty of headroom so you can easily access all your tools and equipment.

Several spots on the Fusion are pre-drilled, ready for you to add shelves, racks, and the like. Note that you can’t drill your holes anywhere, but rather only in the dedicated channels provided for screws. This is because the wall slats are not fully solid, and have some hollow areas that are not structurally suited for shelving or rack storage.

There is a roof skylight that traverses the entire shed, and each shed has some window space as well. Vents are placed around the shed to provide airflow, and to ensure that everything doesn’t get too musty and moldy inside the shed.

Ground Preparation

As with other sheds, no matter what they’re made from, you need to put the Fusion on a secure foundation. This foundation can be either a wood platform or concrete slab, but it is critical that the foundation is level all the way across.

If this shed is placed on an un-leveled base, it may settle and warp, causing the doors to not line up properly, and causing issues down the line.

Getting the ground fully leveled is one of the most taxing parts of the whole shed building process, and it’s not one to phone in. Consider installing a concrete slab if you can, as concrete will be the most robust option.

Assembly

Most standard PE resin plastic sheds don’t take any special skills to assemble, but sometimes can be a bit tricky and time-consuming to put together. And, of course, wood is a whole other animal in and of itself, requiring carpentry skills and special tools if you’re not using a kit.

But, the Keter Fusion makes assembly easy with its tongue and groove design that’s pre-cut, pre-drilled and ready to go. The Fusion has a stainless-steel latch assembly to keep your stuff secure—all you need to add is the padlock (not included).

Concerns

Of course, no product is perfect, although we think the Fusion comes pretty darn close. Some customers felt that the doors were not as sturdy as they could be and required extra reinforcing, and sometimes defects happen during manufacturing that slip through the cracks.

That being said, if you have any problem with your shed when it arrives you can call Keter and they will happily send replacement parts.

One other note: this is not a wood shed. It has some properties of wood, but if you’re expecting to get the total versatility of a wood shed, you are likely to be disappointed. In order to offer the maintenance-free aspects of the shed, it has to have a good percentage of plastic in the composition. The Fusion has some great qualities of wood but you can’t, for instance, hammer nails into it willy-nilly, or add more window holes in it and expect it to maintain its integrity.

The Competition

Currently, there aren’t many other manufacturers offering Wood Plastic Composite Sheds, so with the exception of a Sears Craftsman shed, the Keter Fusion is really the top position here. Comparisons to resin sheds and to wood sheds are of course useful, but the Fusion material really is significantly different than either a wood or a resin plastic shed.

The Bottom Line

The Keter Fusion WPC Shed is an exciting new product combining the best of both wood and resin sheds into one unique product. It has the beauty and strength of wood and is drill-able, making it customizable at any time after purchase. It also gives you all the benefits of resin—maintenance free, rot, rodent and mildew resistant, and will hold up well to the elements. This shed is easy to assemble in an afternoon and takes no special skills.

Today we reviewed all the features and functionality of the Keter Fusion, and we hope you are as excited about this innovative new product as we are!

With the Fusion, you can have the best qualities of both wood and plastic, providing an attractive and functional space for all your outdoor gear and tools. It’s time to get that outdoor space organized once and for all so you can start enjoying your free time in a clutter-free yard!

I have a question. We are building a platform for this shed now. I will order it
when that is finished. How long does it take to have this delivered? I don’t want
to get it too early so it has to be stored…..

    Thanks.

If you order from Amazon, it usually takes at least a week to get delivered. The delivery company calls you once it’s ordered, and you schedule a date for delivery. You have to be there to sign for it, it’s not like a regular Amazon Prime delivery. Good luck building your base, and assembling your shed!
