This gazebo has an attractive railing that gives it structure without feeling closed-in. It also features a handy serving shelf to make entertaining a breeze! The Madison Hex includes a center hook so you can add a hanging candle chandelier, increasing the elegance and beauty of your pavilion. If you live in a part of the country where mosquitos are a problem, you can purchase mosquito netting for your pavilion and hang it from the inside rods. Or, if you prefer, you can add side panel privacy curtains to give your gazebo that intimate feel. You can decorate with string lights to create a magical ambiance at night or hang your favorite potted flowering plants from the included plant hooks (wt. limit: 17.6 lbs.) for a touch of summer color. We also love the idea of using the plant hooks for solar lanterns!

Functionality

The Sunjoy Madison Hex Pavilion is water resistant but not waterproof. It works best to provide shade from the harsh rays of the sun, but it will offer shelter from the occasional summer shower as well. Just don’t expect it to keep you dry in a downpour! If you need something capable of doing that, you’ll want to move to a hard-top gazebo. It has a double-tiered soft roof that will allow the wind to pass through instead of carrying your gazebo away, as well as a central hook to hang a ceiling fan, outdoor lamp, or string light set. The vent has a screen to prevent bugs from getting through, which is always a help. The Madison also has holes in the feet to secure your gazebo to a deck, patio or the ground.

Materials and Build Quality

The Sunjoy Madison Hex Pavilion has a durable fabric water resistant top. The frame is constructed out of strong powder-coated steel and aluminum that should withstand the elements, providing years of service. It is advised to remove the fabric top during the winter months to add to its functional life. Should your canopy get faded or damaged over time, you can easily get a replacement canopy to bring the Madison Hex Pavilion back to life!

Assembly

This gazebo is easy to assemble and comes with a complete instruction manual. If you are a visual person, you can watch a video showing step by step instructions on how to assemble the Sunjoy Madison Hex Pavilion. Plan to have at least two people present to put this together, especially when it’s time to install the canopy top. It can be quite difficult to stretch the strong fabric over the last corner of the frame. Tip: wet the fabric down first as that will make it easier to stretch.

The Competition

The Grand Patio 10 ft. X 14 ft. Double Square Tops All-Season Gazebo with Vented Soft Canopy was approximately the same size as the Sunjoy Madison Hex Pavilion. It has a double-tiered roof structure like the Madison, but with a much smaller top roof portion. It doesn’t come with rails or a serving shelf, but it does include zippered privacy curtains. The construction and price are otherwise compatible, but we would question the “all-season” claim. The Kingsbury 11 ft. x 14 ft Soft Top Gazebo with Sunbrella Cover, like the previously mentioned gazebo, is about the same size as the Sunjoy Madison Hex Pavilion. It also has a double-tiered vented top and like the Grand Patio Gazebo, it has a smaller top section than the Madison. In fact, it is very similar to the Grand Patio in look and design except this one doesn’t have the included privacy curtains. It claims to be “all-season” as well, although with a soft canvas top it’s not going to be waterproof so we have to question this claim. The price is considerably higher than both the Grand Patio Gazebo and the Sunjoy Madison Hex, as it features a Sunbrella canopy.

Concerns

The main concern with the Sunjoy Madison Hex Pavilion is the manufacturer, more specifically, the customer service. There have been numerous complaints regarding the lack of responsiveness of the customer service department with accessing the 12-month warranty or getting replacement parts. If you get a product that is not damaged and has no missing parts this shouldn’t be a concern. And, you can buy replacement covers online – the part of the structure that most often needs replacing. But, if you do need direct help from the company, you might have some difficulty. This is a shame because the Madison Hex Pavilion is a really high-quality gazebo at a great price point.
